Reminder to the community that we do have a dog catcher and we will be actively impounding dogs running loose in the community. Please read the following to gain information on fees and licensing rules.
NORTHERN VILLAGE OF GREEN LAKE
a) COUNCIL-means the Council of the Northern Village of Green Lake;
b) DOG-means any dog, male or female inclusive of puppy;
c) DOG CATCHER-means the person or persons appointed by the Council to catch dogs;
d) Village-means the Northern Village of Green Lake
2. DOGS REQUIRED TO BE LICENCED
Every person who owns possesses or harbours a dog within the village shall cause such dog to be registered with and obtain a licence from the Village. The Village is hereby authorized to register dogs and record with registration of the dog, the name, address and phone number of the owner, description of the dog and alternate phone contact in case of capture.
License fees shall be payable in advance and shall be for full year or portion there of;
For each male $10.00
For each spayed female $10.00
For each unsprayed female $50.00
All licenses issued shall expire December 31 next, following the date of issue.
No person shall attempt to register a female dog as a male dog. Proof of spay is required to access the reduced rate of licensing.
WEARING OF TAGS
Every person to whom a licence has been issued shall cause his dog to wear a collar to which shall be attached the license tag issued by the village. Upon satisfactory proof that the original license tag has been issued by the village, and that the license tag originally issued has been lost, the village shall issue a replacement tag for a fee of $5.00.
3. ANNIMAL CARE
RUNNING AT LARGE
No dog shall run at large in the village, a dog shall be deemed to be running at large when it is beyond the boundaries of the land occupied by the owner, possessor or harbourer of the said dog, or beyond the boundaries of any lands where it may be with the permission of the owner or occupant of the said land, and when it is not under control by being;
i) in direct and continuous charge of a person competent to control it; or
ii) securely confined within an enclosure; or
iii) securely fastened so that it cannot roam at will.
4. CATCHING OF DOGS
a) The dog catcher, or any other person authorized by the Council, is hereby authorized to seize and capture any dog running at large.
b) Whenever any dog with license tag is caught by the dog catcher, the owner or their registered alternate will be contacted by the village office by phone call. Registered owners will have until 5:00p.m. on the day the dog is captured to redeem their dog or the dog will be transported to either the vet or MLDHS. Owners of unlicensed dogs captured will not be contacted and the stray will be transported out of the community for rehoming or destruction on the day of capture.
FEES FOR REDEMPTION
The owner, possessor harbourer of any dog caught by the Dog Catcher, shall ensure the dog is properly licensed and pay the village in advance of release of the said dog the indicated amounts for the holding of such dog;
Redemption Fee $75.00
plus a $10.00/day housing fee if the animal is captured when the village office cannot be accessed.
No unauthorized person shall remove from a dog a collar or license tag.
No person shall own, possess or harbour any dog which by loud and frequent barking, howling yelping or chasing motor or other vehicles or in any manner or way creates a disturbance to the annoyance or discomfort of other persons residing in the neighbourhood, or to the public at large; or which causes injury to any person.
FEMALE IN HEAT
Every female dog in heat shall be confined to a house or kennel.
OPENING CONFINEMENT OR OBSTRUCTING
No person shall break open or assist in breaking open any confinement in which a dog may be held, or hinder or delay or obstruct the Dog Catcher in the performance of his/her duties. RCMP will be called in all instances.
