OPENEETAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
BOX 128, GREEN LAKE, SK, S0M 1B0
306-832-2131

The Northern Village of Green Lake is looking for business minded persons who might be interested in sitting on a newly formed Community Economic Development Board.

Village council has decided to bring a number of municipally owned businesses under one umbrella to cut costs and promote future business development under one body rather than operating within a bunch of silos. The idea is to build a board to create business development opportunity for the community but also to cultivate an office that can promote and support small business development in the community for individual entrepreneurs. Over the years we have watched other communities amalgamate and use best practices in economic development to grow their communities. Green Lake has always wanted a future where the community owns businesses that employ residents and that there is a place for people wanting to develop their own business to go and get information and support. Maintaining a multitude of separate boards is not supporting those goals in an effective manner. We need to bring all that expertise into one board that creates and follows through with an economic vision for the community as a whole.

Currently the village owns and operates independently 4 businesses that could benefit from less being spent on audits, bank fees, lawyer fees, office and bookkeeping expense. Formal Economic Development offices can promote business development and apply for grants which we currently have no access to. In Green Lake business development is being done on behalf of the community through the municipal office which is not its main focus so is slow in reacting and developing due to no dedicated staff or board to focus and push forward.

For these reasons the village is looking for up to 7 members to be appointed who are interested and knowledgeable about business. We will provide training opportunities on board function and management and will also supply support for strategic planning and budget development. Persons with past history on some of Green Lake’s business boards or are business owners yourselves are encouraged to submit your name. We need your input and awareness. The positions are open to anyone who wishes to submit their name - we need members of the community at large to submit if they are interested. We want to have the board in place ASAP.

If you are interested please fill out the Board Appointment Application that you can pick up at the village office or from the Co-management office

WE WILL ACCCEPT APPLICATIONS UNTIL THE POSITIONS ARE FILLED
The hope is that Initial meeting, training and organizing the new board will begin early in January.

Please contact Tina at the village office should you require anymore information
